My Life On Parade
April 27th, 2012 (Interview)

They say that after you have lived in Tucson, you can move away, but you will always come back.

Spider and I loveTucson. We love the Sonoran Desert. There is no other place on earth like it.

Spider received a few texts this afternoon from friends wanting to know how I’m doing because I wrote about a bad toothache in my last blog…..So, here is the latest…. I went to the dentist yesterday afternoon and I had some x-rays taken, and my dentist tells me that he can’t find anything wrong with my teeth, rather he suspects I have a sinus infection around my jaw and that is the culprit. Thank god I don’t need to have a cracked tooth crowned or a root canal. Guess the next step is for me to see my PA and get on some antibiotics. In the meantime, stupid me, I forgot to ask my dentist for some pain meds, and the pain is becoming pretty constant.

Today at 4:00 p.m. Spider and I are scheduled to have a phone interview with Samantha for the Adhoc zine article about Red Wedding and New Wave Theatre. I’m somewhat nervous. Both Spider and I are a bit rusty when it comes to live interviews about Red Wedding. New Wave Theatre was so long ago. I’m trying to remember exactly how everything went down, how it was filmed. I wonder if we’ll be asked about Peter Ivers? He was the host of New Wave Theatre and he wrote the “In Heaven” song sang by the radiator lady in the movie “Eraserhead.” Poor Peter was found bludgeoned to death in 1983 and his murder has never been solved.

Spider has a talking cell phone that mispronounces my last name. It says – “You have a call from Michael Ellie.” Just like Spider’s phone, all my life people have said my last name wrong. My last name is Ely (pronounced as E-lee) like Ely, Nevada or Ely Cathedral in England. My last name is not Ellie or Eli.

Several years ago, back on MySpace, I received a friend invite from someone named Paisley. I didn’t know who Paisley was or how he found me, but I decided to check out his page and I’ve been fascinated by him ever since. Someone on Paisley’s FaceBook page said that Paisley looks like Richard Simmons (keep in mind that someone once said that I looked like Lurch with an earring), but I think he looks more like Robert Smith from The Cure (and a little bit like Tim Curry in “Rocky Horror Picture Show” and a little bit like Barbra Streisand in “A Star Is Born”), and he has intense eyes, and he wears dresses and make-up, and he is a performance artist and a true disciple of Jesus. Normally I’m not too keen on the Jesus stuff, but there is something about Paisley that almost makes me want to be saved. If Jesus were cool and edgy like Paisley, I might be able to get more into him, but when I think of Jesus, I tend to think of a middle-aged hippie. Anyway, I’ve watched Paisley talk and sing in YouTube videos many times and I find his voice to be completely original and hypnotic. I mean, I’m really into this guy and I fantasize that one day we could sing a Bowie duet together. Paisley lives and performs primarily in Phoenix, but he has business here in Tucson on Sunday and he asked if we knew anyone who had a living room where he could do a one hour performance on Saturday, and I volunteered our living room, and so tomorrow evening Paisley will be coming here for dinner with friends and afterwards, he’s going to give us a performance. I’m so excited to meet him! The only thing I feel bad about is that almost everyone we know will be out of town this weekend (and we don’t know that many people here to begin with).Paisley has a couple of people traveling down with him and Cindy and Terry and Rex will be here with a couple of their friends, and that’s cool, but I’m embarrassed that we don’t have more people. Thing is tho, I don’t think that will effect Paisley. I think we’re in for one hell of a bohemian performance (with a touch of Jesus).
